International Exchange Center
With the inauguration of the Faculty of Child Studies in the academic year 2026, our institution now encompasses seven university faculties and two junior college departments. While offering a diverse curriculum that spans a wide array of academic disciplines, we stand united under a shared educational philosophy: the cultivation of "Kyoritsu Leadership"—an ideal that empowers each student to become self-reliant while collaborating harmoniously and productively with others to achieve collective goals.
Established in the academic year 2024 to bolster our international exchange initiatives in both academic and educational domains, the International Exchange Center is dedicated to designing and administering study abroad and language training programs for our domestic students. Concurrently, the Center welcomes and supports exchange students and international scholars from around the globe. Through these endeavors, we aspire to provide our students with transformative opportunities for intercultural engagement, fostering personal growth and ultimately enabling them to embody the essence of "Kyoritsu Leadership."
As we look to the future, we remain committed to further enriching our international exchange activities. We deeply appreciate your continued guidance and support, and we look forward to advancing these meaningful endeavors together.
Director of the International Exchange Center
Professor Akiyoshi Nishiyama
The International Exchange Center at Kyoritsu Women’s University (IEC) offers various services for international students. First of all, we offer pre-enrollment education for international students providing information that’s necessary prior to enrollment. This helps you to prepare easily and effectively, and you can start your student life smoothly after enrollment. We also offer residence card renewal support, and we help you complete this procedure. We also arrange social gatherings and welcome parties where you can interact with other international students and Japanese students who are interested in international exchange (and you!). Along with this, we have a regular Japanese talk room where you can learn Japanese while having fun chatting with other international students and Japanese students. There are also English, French, and Chinese talk rooms, and you’re welcome to join those as well. Staff and faculty members are always on-site in the IEC in the Learning Commons on the 5th floor of Kyoritsu’s Building 2. In the Learning Commons, next to IEC, is a space where students can study freely, making it a gathering place for international students and students hoping to study abroad. For consultation and information on matters concerning study and living arrangements as an international student at KWU, just ask. We're here to help.
Currently, Kyoritsu Women’s University serves two categories of international students,
regularly
admitted foreign students and exchange students.
For undergraduate studies, regular international students are admitted by passing one of two exam
types:
a) an entrance exam especially prepared for incoming international students by Kyoritsu, or
b) the standard entrance exam taken by native Japanese students.
Regular international students may be awarded a degree after successfully completing
four years of studies in Kyoritsu’s Women’s University, or two years of studies in
Kyoritsu’s Women’s Junior College.
Regular international students who are interested in entering graduate level studies may
do so after completing a four-year degree and passing the standard graduate school
entrance exam taken by native Japanese students.

Prior to enrollment, prospective students can receive advice and information from currently enrolled international and Japanese students concerning any potential issues that may arise after enrollment, assuring a smooth integration into student life at Kyoritsu.
Students who wish to continue their studies beyond the expiration date of their residence card must apply for a residence card renewal. Applications can be made up to three months prior to the expiration date of their residence card, and the International Exchange Center staff can assist students in completing this procedure.
In scheduled on-campus events, there are frequent opportunities to interact with Japanese students and other international students who are interested in reaching out across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
In Chat Rooms you can learn natural Japanese while conversing with other international students and Japanese students. There are also English, French, and Chinese Chat Rooms where students from those language backgrounds can share their native language.
Career support is available for international students who wish to work in Japan after graduation. In cooperation with the Tokyo Employment Service Center for Foreigners, the university’s Career Center offers guidance on the job-hunting process. Kyoritsu’s career counselors also offer individual consultations and interview practice.
This system offers partial tuition exemptions to self-financed international students holding a “Student” visa, in order to support those who are experiencing financial difficulties and help them continue their studies.
Selected students, including international students, may work in the university administration for one year, receiving a monthly scholarship of 30,000 yen. Such students can work between classes, allowing effective use of time. Administrative staff provide thorough support for students engaged in such administrative work.
