A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Kyoritsu Girls’ Junior & Senior High School principal

Makoto Kageyama

The foundation of our school was the Kyoritsu Women’s Vocational School, established in 1886 by 34 pioneers in women’s education. Since its founding, Kyoritsu Women’s Educational Institution has continued its steady progress to foster independent women who contribute to society. Under the school motto of “Sincerity, Diligence and Friendship,” we have grown into a comprehensive institution of women’s education, encompassing kindergartens, junior high schools, senior high schools, junior colleges, universities, and graduate schools, with about 8,000 students enrolled. In contrast to many traditional girls’ schools, whose names often derive from a single female founder, typically a religious figure, the Kyoritsu Women’s Vocational School that became our foundation was created by a group of 34 people with different positions and areas of expertise. The name “Kyoritsu” reflects this collaboration.
Currently, Kyoritsu Girls’ Junior and Senior High School is a “school with the most encounters in Tokyo,” with 320 students per grade. Over the six years of junior high and high school, students naturally develop their communication skills through daily interactions with friends, teachers, and staff. In our diverse environment, students learn to accept others as they are, to better understand and respect them. Additionally, by discovering how to make the most of their individuality and understanding their roles, students learn how to contribute to a group in meaningful ways.
Through academic activities, a wealth of events, and extracurricular clubs, our students experience and discover many things, growing and challenging one another. To support this growth, we focus on building a solid foundation through an emphasis on fundamentals while cultivating “critical thinking,” “judgment,” and “expressive ability.” We have also been committed to STEAM education from an early stage, focusing on developing students’ creativity. Fostering a broad range of interests and curiosity contributes to the development of character and humanity. We aspire to provide an educational experience that will have a profound impact on students’ lives after graduation.

EDUCATIONAL GUIDANCE POLICY

Under the school motto of “Sincerity, Diligence and Friendship,” we aim to nurture women who will shine and soar across generations.

We have set the following “ideal student profile” as our educational goal to help each student lead a rich and fulfilling life as responsible contributors to a “gender-equal society,” and as individuals who will grow into professionals and members of families,
Through the six years of education at our school, we aim to cultivate women who can shine and soar in any setting or situation in the future. This is the educational mission that aligns with our school’s tradition.
We, the faculty and staff, are committed to ensuring that each student entrusted to us acquires the virtues of “Sincerity,” “Diligence,” and “Friendship” during their six years at school. Our goal is for them to grow into women who, while “demonstrating individuality in harmony with others,” will “aspire for independence and contribute to society” in any setting or situation they face in the future.

【 Graduation Policy 】

Under the school motto of “Sincerity, Diligence, and Friendship,” we aim to cultivate women who can open up their lives by honing their “ability to engage,” “ability to act,” “ability to think,” and “ability to solve problems,” and who can demonstrate “Kyoritsu Leadership.”

【 Curriculum Policy 】

We have designed and will continue to enhance an educational curriculum that will develop the four abilities mentioned above, along with “Kyoritsu Leadership,” in a well-balanced way over six years.

4+2 SYSTEM

At our school, we have adopted the 4+2 system for learning and career development. The 4+2 system consists of “four years of building foundational skills” and “two years of developing practical skills,” each with its own distinct goals.
During the initial “four years of building foundational skills” (from 7th grade to 10th grade), students learn a broad range of subjects under a unified curriculum, ensuring they develop a solid foundation without focusing too heavily on any single subject.
Then, in the “two years of developing practical skills” (11th and 12th grades), students, under a course-based system, focus on shaping more specialized academic skills with an eye toward university entrance and expanding future possibilities.
